Company Name: OVERCUP PRESS
Description: Overcup Press is looking for interns in various departments for the 2025-2026 academic year. These unpaid internships are a chance for people who love books to learn about publishing
and see how an independent book publishing house works.

Successful interns will gain hands-on experience at an award-winning independent press.

Internships are available in Acquisitions, Design, Distributor Relationships, Editorial,
Marketing, Project Management/Publisher’s Assistant, Sales, Social Media, and other
initiatives.

Acquisitions Internship
The Acquisitions interns will work in the department responsible for contracting, receiving,
and assessing both book proposals and manuscripts for potential publication. This intern will
be responsible for tasks such as general manuscript preparation, entering information into
our distributor database, registering books with the Library of Congress, Comp title
research, possible long term research projects, and a variety of other tasks. This is an
excellent opportunity to learn about publishing in a fast-paced environment getting real
world work experience.

Editorial Internship
The Editorial internship will provide experience with a variety of editorial tasks working with
current manuscripts. Duties include checking revised page proofs, editing indexes,
proofreading jacket copy, reviewing prepress proofs, editing social media and marketing
materials, and handling corrections for reprints. Students with editorial experience and
familiarity with Chicago style are strongly preferred.

Design Internship
The design intern will work with several departments. This intern will be responsible for suchtasks as editing book design files, creating and editing photo and video content, newsletter
designplan social media visual content, assist with website updates, establish file naming
processes, collaborate with internal teams at Overcup on other initiatives.
Proficiency in InDesign preferred.

Marketing and Publicity Internship
Overcup’s marketing interns will have the opportunity to be involved in many areas of book
promotions. Interns will primarily be involved in: proofreading catalogs and other
promotional materials, helping to manage the website, ordering and sorting mailing lists,
researching and building new mailing lists for individual book promotions, and assisting the
books marketing staff on a variety of other projects. Interns will also have the opportunity
to become involved in the department’s grassroots initiative, which seeks to identify new
audiences of readers and build lasting partnerships with organizations outside of the Press.
Candidates should be familiar with MS Office, have strong internet research skills, and good
writing/communication skills. Familiarity with Trello, Canva and Shopify a plus, but not
required.

Social Media Internship
Social Media interns will craft engaging content, manage scheduling and posting
across platforms like Facebook, TikTok, and Instagram, and engage with the
community posting engaging responses to their relevant posts. Interns will play an
integral role in developing a social strategy across each community and will
collaborate closely with creative teams across the company. Essential
Responsibilities include: Content Creation that aligns with Overcup’s voice and
strategy for our titles and our brand, Content Scheduling and Posting: Use
Co-Schedule to schedule posts and ensure a consistent online presence, Community
Engagement: Interacting with followers by responding to comments, messages, and
inquiries in the Overcup voice, Monitoring and researching social trends, Tracking
the performance of social media posts and campaigns as well as prepare reports to
summarize these insights, Assisting with monthly editorial planning.

Distributor Relations
Interns will work closely with leadership team to cultivate and manage relationships
with book distributors and wholesalers, optimize sales strategies, coordinate with
internal teams to ensure effective distribution, work to maximize all distributor
opportunities to maximize sales to the book trade, monitor performance and
provide support to maximize sales to the book trade, libraries and specialty
markets, stay updated on industry trends and research ways to adapt distribution
strategies accordingly.

Sales Support
Sales support interns will work with marketing and social media to drive direct sales
through various online and offline channels, work with sales to develop strategies to
meet revenue targets, research and identify opportunities for sales growth, provide
product information and support to key decision makers, analyze sales data to
assess performance and develop strategies, collaborate with marketing and
distribution teams to optimize sales efforts.
Production/Publisher Liaison Intern
The production assistant intern will work directly with the publisher to provide support for a
variety of publishing projects including tracking deadlines, organizing and scheduling
meetings, preparing P&Ls, tracking projects, ordering books and galleys, and drafting and
sending weekly communications to staff and interns. The person in this position will also
provide research on a variety of publishing topics, maintain vendor lists, and work with
publisher to support custom publishing projects with authors and vendors.

Length of Internship: Variable. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.
Requirements: The ideal intern candidates will have: a strong desire to learn
about publishing, basic computer skills and access to a computer
and internet access, excellent communication and organizational
skills, the ability to work well individually and as a member of a
group, an eye for detail, good judgment, a positive attitude, and
a willingness to take initiative.
Location: Remote and hybrid internships are available.
